KATHMANDU, Feb 13: The news is out! 1974 AD, Ishwor Gurung & the Namaste band, and Raju Lama from Mongolian Hearts will set the mood for Kathmandu’s first ever concert by a global celebrity. Our homegrown musicians will be opening for the Canadian rockstar Bryan Adams on Feb 19. [break]

The artists have been chosen especially by JPR and ODC events. “We chose the artists on the basis of their performance and contribution to the Nepali music industry,” shared Simanta Gurung of ODC events. These musicians who are stars on their merit were especially hand picked by JPR and ODC events.

“Patriotic songs have been prioritized in the performances by Nepali bands. We believe that the songs will send a message of unity among the crowd, and to the world” added Gurung. Riding on the wave of national sentiments, these songs were specially chosen by the organizers as per Shital Sing of JPR Events.

The bands will be performing their hit numbers in between 5 to 7 pm. All three bands will be jamming for half an hour each. Manjo KC of 1974 AD informed that his band will be performing their songs, “Yo Man Ta Mero Nepali Ho”, “Pahilo Juni Ma”, “Pijada Ko Suga” and “Sambodhan”. Remembering his schooldays KC added, “I was a huge fan of Bryan Adams then. It’s an honor not just for my band but for the entire country that an international artist of his stature is coming to perform here.”  He also added that Adams was more than a good singer for him; his guitar strums especially influenced him as a guitarist.

For the concert, Raju Lama of Mongolian Hearts is especially flying in from USA to Kathmandu. Ritesh Chris of the band mentioned that they would be performing three songs at the concert. “Since the crowd will be massive we have chosen the best three among our songs to win them over,” he said. They will be two patriotic songs, “Mero Nepal” and “Badal Pari Ko Desh Ma” at the event. The third song, however, is yet to be finalized.

Ishwor Gurung and the Namaste band will also be performing three tracks at the venue. Until now only one among the three tracks has been finalized according to organizers.

There are very good artists in Nepal but due to lack of time we could only include three bands,” said Simant. It has been informed that Adam’s manager and organizers of the event were both involved in the selection of the three performers.

After the bands perform, Adams will be taking stage from 7 to 9 pm. The live concert will be staged using international sound equipments. In his highly successful 32 year old musical career, Adams has released around 20 albums and swept more than a dozen musical awards. Apart from being a world class crooner, Adams is a lyricist, humanitarian and photographer.
