Liglige Daud on Sunday

KATHMANDU, Sept 29: The second edition of Liglige Daud (race) will be held Sunday at Aappipal VDC-4, Gorkha. The race is associated with unification of Nepal by King Prithvi Narayan Shah.



The traditional race used to be organized each year before 1616 BS and the winner of the daud would be crowned as king of Gorkha.[break]



"The race is organized with the view to commemorate the tradition of choosing king with the slogan of -- A tribute run for history," stated the organizer Concept Nepal amidst a press meet in the capital Thursday.



The 13-km race will begin from Chepeghat, the confluence of Marshyangdi and Champadevi located on the border of Lamjung and Tanahun districts and finish at Ligligkot.  



The organizers have expected the participation of 60 players in total. The top five runners will win purses of Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively. While Concept Nepal is the organizer of the event, Ligligkot Bikash Aviyan, Gorkha is the patron.



Dangol, Bhandari´s pair start with win



Yogesh Danol and Rajan Singh Bhandari´s pair started on a winning note in the Third Flex Badminton Tournament that kicked off on Thursday at Flex Fitness Center, Nakkhu.



The duos pair defeated pair of Roshan Shakya and MS Kapali 21-12, 21-11 respectively. Similarly, Pitambar Khanal and Deepak Karki´s pair saw off Tapendradhoj Hamal and Yam Bahadur KC´s pair 21-16, 21-10.



Rajesh Karki and Gyaneshwor Lal Joshi´s pair saw off Roshan KC and Dhruba Krishna Shrestha´s pair 17-21, 21-10, 21-13. Saroj Nath Joshi and Janardan Adhikari´s pair downed Ram Bhattarai and Harihar Dhungana´s pair 21-8, 21-14.



Similarly, Manoj Thapa and Nabin Shakya´s pair, Kuldip Bista and Bhusan Thapa´s pair, Rajan Shrestha and Rabin Dantol´s pair and Tilak Kapali and Manish Khadka´s pair also won their respective first round matches.



Mulpani into final



Mulpani advanced into the final of Jay Nepal Cup Football Tournament organized by Nepali Congress Region No 2, Kathmandu. Mulpani defeated neighbor Danchi 2-0 in the first semifinal match played at Manohara ground, Mulpani.



Parmeshwor Dawadi gave an early lead to Mulpani in the seventh minute and Anil Thapa doubled the tally in the 52nd minute. Suraj Thapa of Mulpani was adjudged the man-of-the-match.



Meanwhile, the second semifinal scheduled to be held on Thursday was postponed for Friday due to time constrains. 



Chhetri to participate in ICECP course



National basketball coach Nagendra Paudel Chhetri is all set to leave for America on Friday to participate in the International Coaching Enrichment Certificate Program (ICECP) to he held there.



Chhetri got the chance to participate in the ICECP after winning scholarship from internationally recognized Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) under recommendations of the Nepal Basketball Association.



The ICEPC course has four models. Model one, two and three will begin from Saturday and finish on November 9. Model four will be held in Switzerland next year.



NOC has claimed that Chhetri will be the first Nepali coach to train in the scholarship program worth about $ 14,000.
