Lekhi forms Nepal Nagarik Party

KATHANDU, May 29: President of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (Nefin) Rajkumar Lekhi on Sunday formed Nepal Nagarik Party (NNP).



“We decided to form a new political party as citizens are looking for a new force amid widespread frustration in the country,” Lekhi said in a statement announcing formation of the party on Sunday. [break]



NNP has seven central committee members, namely Bijay Danuwar, Chandra Kumar Chaudhari, Chandra Kala Gurung, Nagendra Rajbanshi, Taz Mohammed Miya and Raj Kumar Regmi.



NNP said democracy, federalism, inclusiveness and good governance would be the party´s official political line.



Stating that the political parties have failed to address problems facing the country, Lekhi said, “People from indigenous, Dalits, Muslim, Madhesi and marginalized community have been ignored even after declaration of republic.”



He said the party would launch a crusade against corruption in the country. “The fight between our party and those promoting corruption has begun from today.”



Danuwar is an ex-secretary of Nefin while Miya is the chairman of Nepal Muslim Federation. Similarly, Rajbanshi is the vice chairman of Nefin and Chaudhari is the chairman of the Tharu Welfare Council.



Likewise, Gurung is the ex-chairman of National Indigenous Women´s Federation and Regmi is the chairman of Society of Parliamentary Affairs Journalists.
