According to the organizers, the expo will showcase leather shoes, slippers, jacket, belt, purse and other leather products manufactured by the domestic companies. Customers will get goods at attractive price as exhibitors are offer special discounts.

“We have found that the expo is beneficial for both manufacturers and the customers. Visitors can get leather products at affordable price,” said Hom Nath Upadhyay, president of the association.

According to Upadhyay, leather goods have become dearer by 20 to 25 percent this year, compared to last year, mainly because of increase in price of law materials, strengthening of dollar vis-à-vis Nepali rupee and rise in labor costs.

Almost 80 percent of the raw materials used by the industry comes from India and China, among other countries, while the rest is sourced locally.

The expo will provide information to visitors about the price and quality of Nepali leather goods. The companies will also have the opportunity to collect feedbacks from consumers, which will help them improve the quality and design of their products.

The seven-day event will have 80 stalls of 50 different companies. The expo had drawn more than 90,000 visitors and recorded transactions worth Rs 10.25 million last year. The organizers are expecting footfall of around 150,000 this year.

The organizers have fixed entrance fee for the expo at Rs 15.
