LDCS' expert group meeting begins

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: The 18th meeting of experts´ group of the least developed countries (LDCs) has started in Kathmandu from Tuesday.



The four-day meeting is jointly organised by the Ministry of Environment and the Secretariat of the Convention Against Desertification. [break]



Experts from 12 countries, including Nepal, Bangladesh, Benin, Liberia, Austria, Canada, Yuganda, Solemn Island, Maldives and the Netherlands are taking part in the meeting. The main aim of the expert group is to give suggestions to LDCs to prepare and implement strategy of Nation Programmes of Action (NAPAs) and its implementation.



Nepal has already prepared NAPA and the Cabinet meeting on Sept. 28 already endorsed it.



Inaugurating the meeting, Minister for Environment Thakur Sharma said that climate change has seriously affected Nepal´s environment sector and the government has been concerned over it.



The meeting is likely to prepare materials related to the expert group´s working areas and present them in the upcoming 16th conference of the nations who signed the Convention scheduled for Cancun of Mexico in November-December.
