Lawmakers unhappy about SRC appointments

KATHMANDU, Nov 24: The meeting of the Legislature-Parliament has got under way in New Baneshwor on Thursday, with lawmakers coming down heavily on the manner the members of the state restructuring commission (SRC) were appointed.



Taking special time at the outset of the meeting, UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Tilak Pariyar, raising serious objection, said not a singe member in the commission represent the Dalit community. [break]



In his speech, the Maoist lawmaker also demanded an immediate appointment of a Dalit representative to the commission. Likewise, he said it is regrettable that there is no one form the Dalit community in the incumbent Baburam Bhattarai-led jumbo cabinet.



Addressing the House session, Rastriya Janashakti Party lawmaker Prakash Chandra Lohani accused the three major parites—UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN UML—and United Democratic Madhesi Front of sharing the positions in the commission among themselves.



He further said the sharing of the positions among those parties has discarded competent persons and made the entire commission an incompetent lot.



Similarly, NC lawmaker Khadga Bahadur Basyal Sarki, Nepal Workers and Peasants´ Party lawmaker Lila Nyaichayai, UML lawmaker Chhabilal Bishwokarma, CPN (Samyukta) lawmaker Chandra Dev Joshi, CPN (ML) lawmaker CP Mainali and Rastriya Janamorcha lawmaker Chitra Bahadra KC have expressed their views, criticizing the manner the SRC members were picked.
