KATHMANDU, July 14: National Assembly member Devendra Dahal has said that 80 percent of the tax received from tobacco products should be spent on cancer hospitals.

At the meeting of the National Assembly on Friday, Dahal made the demand while giving suggestions for amendments in the Finance Bill, 2080 BS. He said that the tax on tobacco products should be increased further.

He said, 'We have suggested that 80 percent of the money received from tobacco tax should be spent on cancer hospitals or health services. We have observed that the government collects funds from tobacco products or as a health risk tax, but only a small amount is allocated to hospitals. Because of that, we have suggested that 80 percent of the money should be spent on cancer hospitals and health services.”

The discussion on the Finance Bill, 2080 BS has ended in National Assembly.
