KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Lawmakers belonging to the Infrastructure Development Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR) have demanded the government to provide copies of the formal agreement of the long-term Power Trade Agreement (PTA) reached with India.

The lawmakers made the demand during a meeting of the parliamentary panel held on Tuesday. They also maintained that they won’t allow the meeting to continue until the documents of the long-term Power Trade Agreement (PTA) with India are provided to them.

The meeting started in the presence of Minister for Energy Shakti Basnet and Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Kulman Ghising. The lawmakers said that the meeting should start only after the documents of long-term PTA with India were provided to them.

Earlier, a 10,000 MW electricity trade agreement was signed between Nepal and India. The lawmakers maintained  that there is no reason to hold a meeting until the PTA documents  are provided to them for review and discussions.

The meeting could not proceed after MPs CK Raut, Thakur Gaire, Pratima Gautam and others said that they will not address any other agenda until the documents of the agreement are received.
