Lawmaker Suwal suspects PM’s involvement in 33 kg gold smuggling

KATHMANDU, May 31: Lawmaker of Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party (NWPP) Prem Suwal has smelt a rat on the high-profile 33.5 kg gold scam.


Speaking at the Federal Parliament today, Suwal inquired whether Prime Minster himself has a hand behind the gold smuggling saying that only those with low profile and less powerful people have been netted in connection with the gold scam so far.

“I am only a small fish, there are big fishes behind such gold smugglings,” Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who is the incumbent Speaker, had said so during his stint as the Finance Minister, adding, “The time will tell us about it.”


The issue of gold smuggling has gone viral on social media. Some social media users have commented that the biggest ‘fish’ among the ministers could be the Prime Minister himself, isn’t he?
