Locals reached Khalanga Friday evening, carrying Dilsara, 30, in a basket. Jajarkot District Hospital started her treatment immediately. “She has not much external injury but may have internal injuries. Her right hand has not yet started functioning,” Dr Jhalak Sharma at the hospital said. [break]
Dr Sharma said she also suffers from mental scars following the death of her husband and four children.
Devisara´s husband Dalbir, 35, daughters Jamara, 8, Sarita Devi, 6, and sons Niraj, 4, and Deepak, 3, died on the spot after being buried under rubble at around 3 am, Tuesday.
There was delay in her treatment due to lack of transport in Dassera-8, some 20 km from Khalanga. She was being given primary treatment at a local health facility. “We will send her to a hospital with better facilities if her internal injuries are found to be serious,” Dr Sharma assured.
She was rescued from between wooden objects that saved her from the fate of her family, around four hours after the incident. “Death has taken away everyone who had gone to sleep after supper. Who should I live for now?” she asks with misty eyes.
She doesn´t just have emotional trauma to deal with. She doesn´t have shelter as the landslide swept away her house along with her family. The dalit family, that had nothing apart from their run-down house, was earning a living fishing in the river.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Khem Bahadur Thapa assured that the administration is making arrangements to provide relief to Devisara. “We will take a decision in this regard at a meeting of the District Natural Disaster Relief Committee,” CDO Thapa said.
