They claimed the Dwivedi family exerted pressure on them to keep from taking an initiative despite timely information about the kidnapping. They alleged the Dwivedi family took initiative only to release their own son. [break]
“They told us informing the police would be risky,” said Janaki, Liladhar´s mother. “We didn´t know that they had met the kidnappers and even paid one million rupees,” she added.
She also said that though the kidnappers called almost daily, she and her husband never called back as the Dwivedi family said it was dangerous to communicate with them.
“They said our son would return with their son, and there was no reason to worry,” she said.
Liladhar´s sister Puja, 11, said the landlord´s family informed them about the abduction after the kidnappers demanded five million rupees, and then didn´t disclose what was happening. “The phone rang frequently, but they wouldn´t tell us anything,” she said.
After cremating Liladhar, his father, and Puja arrived at Mahendranagar Wednesday night. They lived as tenants in a house in Nepalgunj owned by the Dwivedi family for the past seven months.
