Pugilist weds during championship
Armed Police Force pugilist Pramila Pandey, who had reached the final of women´s 48 kg on Saturday, married Arjun Thapaliya on Sunday. Pandey is to take on Mina Ghale of Kathmandu in the final on Monday.
Pandey and Thapaliya, who came back from Japan for the marriage, were already engaged and they tied the knot on Sunday at Arjundhara Temple of Jhapa in the presence of their family members and some boxing players and officials.
According to their families, the two decided to get married during the championship as Sunday was the last auspicious date for marriage in the Nepali month of Asar according to the Hindu calendar and there´s no date for wedding in the next month. As Pandey refused to quit the tournament and Thapaliya has to return to Japan soon, both the families decided to conduct the marriage during the championship.
"I will continue my boxing career," said Pandey after the marriage ceremony.
