Lama sets up final with Shrestha

KATHMANDU, March 19: Sanjay Lama set up a final showdown with Nepal No 1 pro and defending champion Shiva Ram Shrestha in the Surya Nepal NPGA Match Play on Tuesday.



Shrestha defeated No 4 Surya Prasad Sharma 3-2 in the semifinal round played at the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Tuesday. [break]Meanwhile, No 7 Lama registered victory over No 14 Deepak Acharya on the fourth playoff hole.



Shrestha took the turn at 2-up and sealed the victory over Sharma on the 16th hole. Acharya also had taken the turn at 2-up but Lama forced the playoff with a win on the 18th hole and came up with victory on the 22nd hole.



The final between Shrestha and Lama will be played over 36 holes, while the third-place match between Sharma and Acharya will be played over 18 holes on Wednesday. The top four players will receive Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000, Rs 22,000 and Rs 18,000 respectively.



A total of 16 players in the 2011-12 season´s Order of Merit took part in the ninth event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2012-13. The tournament carries a total cash prize of Rs 200,000.



The losing quarterfinalists -- Ram Thapa, Yelamber Singh Adhikari, Deepak Thapa Magar and Pashupati Sharma -- will receive Rs 10,000 each, while the eight pros, who lost in the first round, will get Rs 5,000 each.
