ANKA made such statement on Tuesday after kabaddi players could not participate in the ongoing Asiad following the dispute between the NSC-recognized ANKA and the ANKA recognized by international bodies and the Nepal Olympic Committee. [break]
NSC had dissolved the ANKA body headed by Sunil Rajkarnikar some eight months earlier and formed a new body under the chairmanship of NSC Member Lal Kumar Lama.
The Rajkarnikar-led ANKA had taken initiative to take the women´s kabaddi team to the Asiad. However, they were barred from going to China at the last minute after NSC and the NSC-recognized ANKA requested Nepal Police not to send their players.
Organizing a press conference at NSC on Tuesday, Lama said that they were bound to bar kabaddi players as unauthorized kabaddi officials tried to use them.
“We were not in favor of barring players and doing injustice to them. We also wish for as much international participation as possible. Everybody should follow a system, but the unauthorized kabaddi officials ignored even the simple formality of informing NSC about the Asiad participation. Therefore, we were bound to take a harsh step," Lama explained.
He also claimed that the decision to bar kabaddi players was a joint decision of ANKA and NSC. “The NSC board meeting had decided to include only 15 games in the Asiad,” claimed Lama.
Meanwhile, Rajkarnikar, president of the NOC-recognized ANKA that was later dissolved by NSC, was elected as the senior vice-president of the Asian Kabaddi Federation (AKF) during the AKF´s general convention held in Guangzhou on Monday.
Lama said that they would also seek international affiliations in future.
"We will take initiatives to get memberships of AKF and World Kabaddi Federation (WKF)," said Lama. Lama was responding to a query from journalists regarding the uncertainty surrounding Nepal´s international participation in future after they barred players from the Asiad and Rajkarnikar was elected in the AKF executive body.
