The locals from Taklak VDC are compelled to walk two days on foot and travel one day on bus to reach to district headquarters to pay the bills as there is no bill collection counters in the area. Around 150 households of the VDC are suffering from the lack of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA)’s counter in the VDC.[break]
Villagers of Saligram, Kurgha, Balakot and other neighbouring VDCs have also been compelled to go to the district headquarters spending thousands of rupees on travel to pay the bills.
People of Ward No 1, 2 and 4 of Taklak have been arranged a mechanism to go to the district headquarters on rotation basis to pay the bills.
“Though it would be easier for us to pay the bills in Syangja, we have to go to Kushma,” said a local, Tara Neupane. “It costs more than Rs 3,000 for a single visit to Kushma.”
In a bid to get rid of traveling long distance just to pay electricity bills, villagers have urged the NEA Parbat branch to establish a counter in their village.
In response, the NEA has committed to meet the demand. “We are trying to sort out the problem by allowing them to pay the electricity bills in Syangja,” said NEA branch chief Nirmal Kumar Karki.
