KTM that stands for Austria-based Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen is known the world over for off-road bikes. It was the most successful motorcycle manufacturer in US and Europe in 2011.[break]
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Sekhar Golchha, executive director of HH Bajaj, said KTM is the unsurpassed world leader in the off-road biking segment. “No other brand has been more successful in off-road motorcycle racing in recent decades. Till date KTM bikes have won more than 200 world championship titles, including the toughest and most prestigious Dakar Rally, not once but a whopping 11 times in a row,” said Golchha.
The KTM Duke 200 will cost Rs 349,900 in Nepal.
According to HH Bajaj, the KTM Duke 200 is the only 200cc naked bike with real racing genes that can be ridden on difficult terrain. The bike has high-tech components such water-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine, three-chamber silencer and ultra-light tubular space frame. The elegant light-alloy swing arm of the bike ensures maximum riding pleasure, powerful propulsion and dynamic cornering fun.
“The bike is unbeatable with its sensational power-to-weight ratio because of an ultra-low weight of 126 kg,” HH Bajaj said in a statement.
The off-road bike has front and rear disk brakes, mono-shock rear suspension, large-travel telescopic front suspension, alloy wheels, sporty graphics and body work. Diamond shaped steel frame for rigid and strong structure, dual muffler exhaust, higher gear ratios for quick acceleration and digital ignition system are the other features in the bike. It has ground clearance of 170 mm and seat height of 810 mm. Its fuel tank can store up to 10.5 liters of petrol.
Golchha said the company was hopeful that Nepalis will love the bike. “We assure our customers of excellent after sales service and easy availability of spare parts at reasonable rates,” said Golchha, adding that they plan to sell 1,500 units of KTM Duke 200 within a year.
Although KTM is an Austrian motorcycle brand, the bikes that will be sold in Nepal are manufactured in India in collaboration between Bajaj Motors and KTM.
HH Bajaj will be selling the bikes from a new KTM showroom located in Bhim Plaza, Naxal. It will provide after sales service and genuine spare parts from its service center located in Gairidhara. The service center will also sell power parts and power wears, according to Golchha.
