Krishna Janmashtami being observed today

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Today, 'Shrikrishna Janmashtami' is being celebrated with great fanfare across the country. On the occasion of the birth of Lord Krishna, this festival is celebrated all over the country by worshiping Lord Krishna.

It is said that Shri Krishna, who was born as the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu to protect all human beings from injustice, tyranny and demonic tendencies, inspired the human community to do good deeds by standing for the truth throughout his life.

According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Shree Krishna was born in the midnight of Bhadrakrishna Ashtami day as per the lunar calendar during the Dwapar era, so this day is also called 'Shri Krishna Janmashtami' and the night is also called 'Mohratri'.

On this day, it is customary for women in particular to observe fasting and stay awake all night and worship Lord Krishna. On the day of Krishna Janmashtami, it is customary for various religious organizations to take out processions with tableaus and swing the idols depicting various forms of Lord Krishna.

On the occasion of Shrikrishna Janmashtami, Lord Krishna is worshiped, preached, bhajan kirtan is performed and a fair is held in Krishna temples across the country.

The famous Krishna temple at Patan in Lalitpur, which is very crowded on the day of Krishna Janmashtami, is also crowded with devotees from early morning. Similarly, Shri Krishna Janmashtami festival is being celebrated in grand manner in Navatandham in Gothatar in the eastern part of Kathmandu, Shri Krishna Temple located in northern part of Budhanilkantha and in other Krishna temples across the country.

On the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, the government has declared a public holiday across the country today.
