Indian firm Bashistha and Bashistha that bagged the contract to rebuild the 1,700-meter embankment confirmed completion of the project.
The firm´s project chief Ramesh Kulkarni said the firm has also built spurs designed to control the water level of the river. He added that Chief District Officer Hari Krishna Upadhyay has also been informed about the completion of the construction work.
After the embankment was destroyed last August, many VDCs such as Haripur, Sripur, western Kusaha and Laukahi of Sunsari were inundated. Some 7,256 families were displaced by the flooding, while over two dozen lost their lives.
The embankment was reconstructed with an investment of Rs 2 billion from the Indian government.
The Indian firm is also speedily rebuilding the spur dams in Rajabas and Sukrabare areas of Prakashpur.
