BIRATNAGAR, Aug 24: Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has secured a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly.
Karki received 57 votes during Monday’s vote. Members of the CPN-UML and Nepali Communist Party supported the chief minister. The UML has 40 members in the Koshi Provincial Assembly, while the Nepali Communist Party has 17.
Speaker Amar Bahadur Bista announced that 57 members voted in favour of the confidence motion.

Provincial assembly members from the Nepali Congress voted against the motion. The Congress has 29 members, of whom 22 voted against Karki.
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), which has five members including the Speaker, did not vote either for or against the motion.
Janata Samajwadi Party’s sole provincial assembly member, Nirmala Limbu, was absent.
The Koshi Provincial Assembly originally had 93 members, but one member has resigned, leaving 92 members. A total of 83 members were present during Monday’s meeting.
