Koirala rejects PM's request for support

KATHMANDU, Nov 13: The main opposition Nepali Congress has objected the government decision to grant amnesty to a murder convicted Constituent Assembly member Bal Krishna Dhungel, expansion of the Cabinet and the appointment of ambassadors, saying these were against the national consensus.



Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala made the objection with Prime Minister, Dr Baburam Bhattarai at a meet between the two at the former´s residence, Maharajgunj on Sunday.[break]



"Government has violated consensus by expanding cabinet, deciding to give amnesty, and appointing ambassadors. It is not good to make agreement for the violation," leader Koirala said media persons following the meet.



Although the Prime Minister was found encouraged on peace process and constitution writing after returning from the SAARC summit, he was unaware about serious issues in the country, NC President Koirala said, adding, "None can accept Dhungel case, on which the Supreme Court had already given final verdict of life imprison because it was serious violation of the rule of law."



"Nobody agrees Dhungel´s case as a political one. So, it has waned people´s confidence on you. You need to think on it," said Koirala to the Prime Minister.



Moreover, the NC stressed on implementation of the seven-point agreement rather than deviation because the deadline of the Constituent Assembly was very near.



Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai and NC President Koirala also discussed about accelerating talks with political parties and implementation of the agreements after holding special committee meeting.
