KOICA volunteer supports establishment of digital ICT Lab in Lalitpur-based school

KATHMANDU, Dec 19: A volunteer from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Heyonsu Park, successfully completed a project at Shramik Shanti Secondary School in Lalitpur, aiding in the establishment of an advanced Computer Learning Lab.

Supported by Rs 2.017 million from KOICA and Rs 130,000 from the school, the project aimed to upgrade the existing computers and create a modern lab for improved student learning. The inauguration ceremony for the project took place on December 19, 2023, on the school premises. 

The event was attended by Mooheon Kong, Country Director of KOICA, Sanu Lal Byanjankar, Principal of the school, Pawan Bikram Karki, Vice Principal of the school, Raju Maharjan, Spokesperson for Lalitpur Metropolitan City, KOICA representatives and the school staff and faculties. 

According to KOICA, this initiative forms part of its ongoing collaboration with Shramik Shanti Secondary School since 2021, emphasizing the Green School Project and Korea Overseas Volunteer Program. The school, with 1191 students from grades 1 to 12, aims to enhance digital literacy and practical computer education through this new lab.

Raju Maharjan, spokesperson for Lalitpur Metropolitan City, expressed gratitude for KOICA's support and envisioned future collaborations. Park, the IT Volunteer, emphasized the lab's importance in overcoming the challenge of outdated computers, enhancing the school's capacity for comprehensive digital education. Maharjan is also chairperson of the school management committee.

According to KOICA, its volunteer program in Nepal seeks to facilitate sustainable development and foster ties between Korea and host countries. With ten active volunteers across sectors, KOICA aims to expand its volunteer presence in Nepal, furthering the transfer of Korean knowledge and technology at the grassroots level.
