KOICA, KU sign agreement for a 8-year project

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Kathmandu University on Sunday signed a Record of Discussion (RoD) of the project "Integrated Rural Development of Nepal through Strengthening Research and Development Capacity of Kathmandu University". 

The Korean government through KOICA will spend US$ 10 million for this project of 8 years.

Through this project, KOICA aims to strengthen research and development capacity of Nepal by establishing KU as a strong Research and Development platform for researchers and scientists of Nepal. KOICA and KU will jointly work for improving quality of life and income status of people in rural communities in Nepal through technology promotion. 

Sung Ho Choi, vice president of KOICA and KU VC Dr Ram Kantha Makaju signed the agreement. 

During the signing ceremony, KOICA Vice-president Choi stated that the project should explore the role of Research and Development in bringing positive socio-economic changes in life of the people. In the program, KU Vice Chancellor Dr Makaju expressed his full commitment for the successful implementation of the project from the KU and the government of Nepal.

In 2014, KOIKA had supported the KU in setting up a Technical Training Center which runs various short-term and long-term trainings for rural and disadvantaged youth of Nepal.
