KATHMANDU, May 19: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has intensified the tests in crowded areas after a steep rise in coronavirus infection cases.
In order to contain the pandemic, KMC and the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) jointly initiated a bid to step up the antigen and PCR tests.
According to KMC sources, 12 out of 402 tested in Kalimati vegetable market on Tuesday were diagnosed with coronavirus.

More tests will be carried out at Tukucha vegetable market today.
The target is to perform such tests in 10,000 people.
KMC Health Division Chief Hari Kunwar said, “Results drawn from the tests will be helpful in sending the symptomatic patients to hospitals and asymptomatic patients to home isolation for monitoring”.
As per the plan, antigen tests will be stepped up in Asan, Dillibazar, New Road, Baluwatar and Koteshwor in collaboration with KMC. Likewise, tests will be performed in Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square in partnership with the concerned local levels.
The KMC is planning to collect swabs for PCR tests from 16 sites starting this coming Sunday.
The KMC has also made arrangements to take the patients with severe infection to hospitals. There are currently 11,631 active coronavirus cases in KMC.
