KMC and Sajha Yatayat to operate city bus shuttle

Kathmandu, Aug 11: The Kathmandu Metropolis and Sajha Yatayat Cooperative on Tuesday signed an agreement to operate city bus service in the Kathmandu Valley.

At a programme held here Tuesday, Kathmandu Metropolitan City's Executive Officer Rudra Singh Tamang and Sajha Yatayat's Director Kanakmani Dixit signed the agreement paper.As per the agreement, Kathmandu Metropolis will invest Rs 100 million in the next six months to purchase upscale buses and the Sajha Yatayat will be allowed to run the operation of the buses.

On the occasion, KMC Executive Officer Tamang said the agreement was reached for collaboration with the Sajha Yatayat to streamline the management of public transport and operate night bus service in the Valley.

Similarly, Director Dixit said the agreement was a message of cooperation as well. He added that his organization would contribute to running the services on a regular basis and make it economically reasonable. The organization will also help in operating the services to tourist and religious destinations, according to him.

Former Chief Secretary Leelamani Poudyal said the local bodies must invest in city bus and inter-city bus services to broaden the horizon of its services to the people. RSS
