KIMFF starts in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Dec 8: The annual Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) kicked off on Thursday at QFX Kumari Hall, Kamalpokhari.

KATHMANDU, Dec 8: The annual Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) kicked off on Thursday at QFX Kumari Hall, Kamalpokhari.



This year’s selection includes an impressive list of more than 80 documentaries, fiction, short experimental films and animation from filmmakers of 28 countries.



The festival opened with the premier of Seto Surya (White Sun) directed by Deepak Rauniyar. The film tells a multi-generational story of a family and community who struggle to reconcile with socio-political changes in post-conflict Nepal. Nepali Panorma will showcase films from local talent including ‘Blockade’ which captures the trials and tribulations of

Nepalis during Indian’s economic blockade in the winter of 2015; ‘Hospital’ gives an intimate behind the scenes into a state-run hospital in Kalikot and ‘In Search of Devaki’ exposes the exploitative and damaging part of the Deuki system.



The international line-up explores universal themes of love, the search for the sacred in a changing landscapes, coming of age and climate change.

The film festival is scheduled till December 12 and will be screened at QFX Kumari Hall and Russian Culture Center, Kamalpokhari simultaneously.
