Nepal Police Club (NPC) athlete Chaudhary leaped 5.26 meters at the Dasharath Stadium on Wednesday during the selection tournament for the upcoming Asian Athletics Championship to be held in Japan in July and World Athletics Championship in August.[break]
Chudhary broke the earlier record of 5.20 meters set by Devi Maya Paneru in the Eighth South Asian Games, Kathmandu in 1999. Chaudhary had also jumped 5.20 meters in an Athletics Tournament organized by Gorkha Runners Club three years ago but it was not approved by Nepal Amateur Athletics Association as an official tournament to count as national record.
Ramita Chaudhary from Nepalgunj jumped 4.51 meters on Wednesday to finish second in the event. Sita Hajam finished third with 3.74 meters.
Nepal Army dominated the men´s 10,000-meter race as Raj Kumar Bista finished it in 32 minutes 22.17 seconds. Other two army runners Krishna Basnet and Gyan Bahadur Bhattarai clocked 32:29.60 and 32:42.34 respectively for the second and third place.
In the women´s 5,000-meter, Kanchi Maya Koju of Armed Police Force (APF) completed the race in 17 minutes 32.18 seconds and Gita Khatri from same department finished in the second position with the timing of 18:43.65.
Moti Lal Chaudhary (Army Club) completed the men´s 800-meter race in 1 minute 57.55 seconds for the first place while Hari Narayan Mahato from NPC took 1 minute 59.08 seconds for the second position. Dil Bahadur Basnet of Army clocked 1 minute 59.64 seconds for third spot.
Surya Maya Rai of APF finished women´s 800-meter race in 2:23.88 minutes for the pole position while Bindra Shrestha of APF and Manmati Bista of NPC finished the race in second and third position with the timing of 2:25.37 and 2:29.45 respectively.
In the men´s 200-meter sprint, Tilak Ram Tharu of NPC covered the distance in 21.94 seconds and left Min Bahadur Chaudhary of Army behind. Chaudhary clocked 22.65 seconds while Hari Lal Chaudhary of APF took 23.58 seconds for the third position.
Chandra Kala Thapa of NPC clocked 25.65 seconds for the first place in women´s 200-meter sprint while Sabitra Chaudhary (APF) finished it in 27.58 seconds for the second position.

Bidyadhar Chaudhary of NPC jumped 6.58 meters to win the men´s long jump event while Yam Sajan Sunar from Neplagunj satisfied in the second place with a jump of 6.48 meters. Tek Bahadhur Sarki of Army stood third as he hopped 6.10 meters for the third position.
The selection event will conclude on Thursday. According to Nepal Amateur Athletics Association, the selection of the athletes will be completed after analyzing performances and Nepal´s participation limitations for the Asian and World Championship.
