Kazak Everest team out of contact after heavy snowfall

GORAK SHEP, May 26: A mountaineering team consisting at least three Kazak nationals are out of contact at Camp 2 of Mt Everest as mountaineers and support staff at the base-camp were forced to retreat to Gorak Shep due to heavy snow fall.



Lakpa Norbu Sherpa, base camp manager of Himalayan Rescue Association, said that the attempts to locate the team managed by Asian Trekking was going on. He also added that there was two-meter snow layer at the base camp.



Approximately 100 have already returned to Gorak Shep from the base camp whereas 50 others are expected to be back by the evening.



The team of Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon 2009, the world´s highest altitude marathon scheduled for May 29, is also stuck at Gorak Shep.
