KATHMANDU, June 10: The temperature in the capital is rising steadily. While the average temperature on Sunday was 30.5°C, it increased to 31.6°C on Monday.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) forecasts that Tuesday’s temperature will also range between 30°C and 32°C. For the month of June, the average temperature in Kathmandu is usually around 29.5°C.
“The rise in temperature is due to the lack of rainfall and cloud cover,” said meteorologist David Dhakal from the DHM. The minimum temperature in the morning also increased from 20.4°C on Monday to 21.8°C on Tuesday.

Although the monsoon entered Nepal’s eastern region on May 29, it has not yet expanded further.
“The monsoon hasn’t been able to move beyond the east, but it is gradually progressing. Based on this, temperatures are likely to start dropping from tomorrow,” said meteorologist Dhakal.
Earlier this year, Kathmandu recorded the highest temperature of 33.5°C on April 24.
Not only Kathmandu, but cities like Nepalgunj and Dipayal are also experiencing temperatures significantly above average. While the average temperature for Nepalgunj in June is 36.6°C, it reached 41°C on Monday. Similarly, Dhangadhi’s average temperature for June is 36.3°C, but Monday's high was 40.2°C.
The DHM has projected that this year will see higher-than-average heat and rainfall compared to previous years.
