Kathmandu Metropolitan City is second worst urban govt: Study

KATHMANDU, July 16: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), the only metropolis in the country, is the second worst performing urban government in the country after Malangawa Municipality, according to a study conducted by Local Body Financial Commission (LBFC). The study has placed KMC in 57th position among 58 cities, towns and District Development Committee covered.



LBFC on Monday made public the result of the study conducted last year.[break]



Due to its poor performance, KMC lost Rs 311.3 million grant from government and donor agencies, last year. The report shows that KMC has beaten only Malangwa municipality of Sarlahi district in performance. Among 13 minimum yardsticks, KMC met only 10. The metropolis received only 40 marks out of 100 and this means it fared poorly on the service delivery front. Likewise Janakpur municipality failed in work performance.



Among the 58 municipalities, Bhaktapur has been ranked the best while Dhankuta and Sindhupalchowk District Development committees (DDC) scored second and third positions respectively. Similarly Bhimeshwar municipality of Dolakha, Ghorahi of Dang, Butwal of Rupandehi and Hetauda of Makawanpur achived highest scores.



Siraha, Mahottari, Dhanusha, Sarlahi, Ramechhap, Chitwan, Kaski, Dolpa, Kalikot, Achham and Bajhang DDCs also fared poorly in terms of performance.
