Kathmandu-Lhasa bus service to resume

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: Tibetan authorities have agreed in principle to resume the Kathmandu-Lhasa bus service and provide visa to international tourists.



A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in this regard during the fourth meeting of China´s Tibet-Nepal Joint Tourism Coordination Committee held on Monday and Tuesday in Lhasa, Tibet.[break]



The pact was signed by Laxman Prasad Bhattarai, joint secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, and Wu Ying Jie, standing committee executive vice chairman of Tibet government, on behalf of the respective governments, said a press statement released by the Nepal Tourism Board.



Tibetan side has also agreed to promote Nepal Tourism Year 2011 in Tibet through media and hoarding boards and allow regular helicopter services from Nepal to Mansoravor lake area.



Officials of the both sides have hoped that the implementation of the fresh MoU would help in unhindered flow of tourist from Nepal and China. The Nepali delegation led by Bhattarai included Nepali consul genral and officials from NTB, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Civil Aviation Authority, Home Ministry and tourism entrepreneurs.



The next round meeting of the committee is scheduled for November in Kathmandu.
