KATHMANDU, April 8: Region No. 3, Kathmandu, boycotted today’s cricket match against region No. 6, Baitadi, in the ongoing Fifth National Games. Both the Kathmandu and Baitadi teams were present at the Kirtipur Cricket Grounds, but Kathmandu decided to not go ahead with the match, citing internal reasons within their own team as the cause for the boycott. Kathmandu skipper Paras Khadka was reluctant to elaborate on why the controversial decision was taken. But sources claim that a rift between skipper Khadka and the selection committee over the issue of Abhaya Rana’s exclusion from the Katmandu squad was the reason that Kathmandu decided to abandon the match.

Khadka wanted to include Rana, but the selection committee refused, citing Rana´a poor performance during the selection matches; Rana had played only two selection matches.

Kathmandu played its first league match, against region No.2, Birgunj, last Monday.
