KATHMANDU, Dec 18: Karnali Yaks have made it to the second qualifier, defeating Chitwan Rhinos by 21 runs in the eliminator round of the ongoing Nepal Premier League being held at the Kirtipur Cricket Ground.
In reply to the Yaks’ 175/6, Rhinos could post only 154/9.
Karnali will next play against the loser of the first qualifier being held between Sudurpaschim Royals and Janakpur Bolts. The winner of the first qualifier will move to the final and will play the winner of the second qualifier.

Chitwan’s former England player Ravi Bopara who hit 53 off 34 balls made a valiant effort to take his team to victory but failed to do so as he fell to Nandan Yadav in the 18th over. Other batsmen who contributed with the bat were Chitwan captain Kushal Malla (23) and Luc Benkenstein (16). For Karnali, captain Sompal Kami claimed 2 wickets, Zeeshan Maqsood took 3, Young Bipin Sharma took 1 and Nandan Yadav bowled magnificently in the death overs to claim 2 wickets including that of Bopara to bundle out Chitwan to 154.
Earlier, Karnali posted 175 for 6 wickets against Chitwan in the eliminator round of the NPL played at Kirtipur Ground.
Karnali’s opener Jayakrishna Kolsawala hammered 53 runs off 39 balls while Will Basisto hit 52 off 37 balls and Chadwik Walton chipped in 46 off 23 balls to help Karnali put an imposing total.
Basisto and Walton scored 67 runs off 29 balls while Rijan Dhakal conceded 21 runs in one over. Karnali’s Rit Gautam and Gulshan Jha returned to the pavilion without scoring while Zeshan Maqsood scored 14.
The winner of the eliminator round will progress to play the second qualifier tomorrow. The winner will meet the loser of the first qualifier to be played later this afternoon.
Karnali’s Chadwik Walton was honored with the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
