Karnali Corridor yet to be opened

MANMA, Oct 30: The Karnali Corridor, which remains blocked due to landslides on October 4, has not been opened yet. The corridor has not yet been opened due to continuous landslides in Lusa of Sanni Triveni Rural Municipality-1.

MANMA, Oct 30: The Karnali Corridor, which remains blocked due to landslides on October 4, has not been opened yet. The corridor has not yet been opened due to continuous landslides in Lusa of Sanni Triveni Rural Municipality-1.


Landslides are still occurring in the area. Due to the non-operation of the corridor, there has been a problem in the transportation of daily consumable goods to Kalikot, Bajura, Mugu and Humla.


"Due to continuous landslides, it has not been possible to resume traffic on the highway," said Ananta Baral, proprietor of Nishant Construction Services Company. He said "Excavators are at the landslide site but they are not able to work."

He said that if the landslide could not be avoided, an alternative solution would have to be found. He said that the landslide should be stopped by placing wire mesh.


Birendra Yadav, head of the Hilsa Simkot Road Project, said, "We are not able to remove the mud putting our lives at risk as landslides occur frequently even when the wind is blows.” Yadav added, “All our machines and manpower are in a ready position to continue work after the landslide stops.”


Raj Bahadur Shahi of Seuna, Kalikot Raskot Municipality-5, said that due to the blockage of the road section from Khulalu to Humla in Kalikot, there is food shortage in Kalikot, Bajura, Mugu and Humla.


Under the Karnali Corridor, there are 40 km road sections in Kalikot district, 43 km in Bajura district and 113 km in Humla district.
