Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswati passes away

NEW DELHI, Feb 28: Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswati today breathed his last in Chennai hospital. 



The Hindu religious leader is the 69th Shankaracharya Guru and head, or pontiff, of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. 



He was admitted to Chennai's Ramchandra hospital last month when he collapsed after his blood sugar dipped, said a media report. He was put on a ventilator by the doctors that time and his condition became stable after it. Later, he was discharged and he returned to normalcy. 


He visited Delhi last November and was not in best of his health.

The body has been taken to the Kanchi Mutt, officials confirmed. 


He was named by Chadrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal as his successor on March 22, 1954.
