The officials of NSC and the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) picked up a heated argument at the players´ village in Guangzhou on Sunday regarding the inclusion of kabbadi in the Asiad.[break]
The row over the inclusion of 14 teams by NSC and six teams by NOC in the Asiad has taken center stage even on foreign soil. NSC Member Secretary Hari Babu Chaudhary has been visiting only the teams of the 14 sports affiliated to NSC. He has also instructed other NSC officials not to visit members of the other six sports, according to an NSC official.
“All of the Nepali teams should have been treated as our own in this foreign land. We wanted to encourage all the players, but we have got instructions not to do so,” said the official. “We should have barred the NOC officials, not the kabaddi players. Our anger toward NOC officials is being vented on the helpless players. History will never forgive us for this,” he said.
A great hue and cry was raised in Guangzhou after the Nepal Police decided not to send six of its kabaddi players after receiving a letter from the ministry. According to the NSC official, efforts are being made to bring the players on personal initiatives.
“We are trying to contact senior officers of the Nepal Police. We are of the view that the players must be brought here by any means. If necessary, we have reached an agreement to issue a letter on behalf of NSC in order to bring them here,” said the official.
