KATHMANDU, April 30: The Supreme Court (SC) Division Bench of Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Bal Krishna Dhakal has concluded the writ petition demanding that protesting teachers return to their classrooms.
The writ, filed by advocate Sharwan Kumar Chaudhary and others last week, calls for addressing the demands of the protesting teachers and ensuring their return to the classroom. Earlier, a single bench of Justice Nahkul Subedi had issued an interim order along with four directives, instructing the government to take immediate action.

The interim order directed the Ministry of Education to create an environment for teachers to resume work within three days and to submit a progress report to the SC on the fourth day. Accordingly, the ministry submitted its report on Monday, stating that discussions with the protesting teachers had taken place and that deliberations on their demands had accelerated in the parliamentary committee.
The four directives issued in the interim order ask government authorities to take necessary steps to immediately address the legitimate and constitutionally aligned demands of the protesting teachers, ensuring that students across the country are not deprived of regular education. The order also calls for proper arrangements to prevent any delay in publishing the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) results due to the protests and to conduct the Grade XII board exams as scheduled, avoiding any uncertainty that could affect hundreds of thousands of students.
The exams should not be postponed or rescheduled, and the Ministry of Education must submit a progress report on the implementation of these directives to the SC on the fourth day from the date of the order, in accordance with Rule 24(2)(b) of the Supreme Court Regulations, 2074.
