After police refused to file her case, Gauri, the victim, went to Lahan Wednesday and called a press conference to pressure the police. She said she has been further victimized as the police, under pressure from the abusers, refused to file the case. Gauri, at the press conference, urged reporters to exert pressure so that she would get justice.
Ramesh Bhattarai, chief of police in Siraha, admits that Gauri was gang-raped. He further said that although Gauri had mentioned four names in a preliminary statement, she later added two more names. "Because of this contradiction, we haven´t filed the case,” Bhattarai said. However, Bhattarai claimed that the first four abusers named by Gauri have been booked.
Gauri, on the other hand, said that she was raped by four or five men on a private hospital bed at Micharya, and accused police of deleting one name.
According to the police, the accused have already left the village and are being searched for.
Twenty five days ago, Gauri Yadhav, 27, of Anarma, Lalpur-9, Siraha was raped by five men. The village authorities decided to supress the incident and it remained unknown before police intervened on the third day. Following the intervention, the victim was taken to hospital for treatment.
The victim had left her home after a minor argument and gone to relatives at Latatol. On her way, she was raped in nearby grounds by five or six men from a neighboring village.
