Junko Tabei named goodwill ambassador for NTY 2011

KATHMANDU, Sept 29: The government has appointed Junko Tabei, the first woman to summit Mt Everest, as the goodwill ambassador for the Nepal Tourism Year (NTY) 2011 campaign.



The declaration was made during the first international launch of the year-long tourism promotional campaign organized by Nepali Embassy and the NTY 2011 Secretariat in Tokyo on September 27.



Along with Tabei, the government also appointed popular Everest summiteers Yuichiro Miura, Gora Miura and Mikihito Fujimori as the goodwill ambassadors for the campaign.



Meanwhile, seven prominent Nepali companies participated in the JATA World Travel Fair 2010. Nepal’s participation in the JATA Fair was coordinated by Nepal Tourism Board, Nepali Embassy in Japan and Nepal-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nepal Tourism Board said in a statement. The fair was held at Tokyo Big Sight from September 24 to 26.



Nepal’s participation in the fair is expected to draw good number of Japanese visitors to Nepal in 2011. More than 25,000 Japanese tourists visit Nepal every year.



Hotel Manang, Hotel Everest, Shangrila Holidays, Liberty Holidays, Hotel Malla and Sumire Tours and Travels participated in the fair, the statement added.
