Jumla to connect with national grid in next two years: Minister Pun

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: The government is set to connect remote mountainous Jumla district with the central power transmission line in the next two years.


Responding to queries raised by people's representatives in today's meeting of the House of Representatives, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun said the process to connect the district with the national grid has already started. "The government is responsible to address issues raised in Parliament," he said.

The Nepal Electricity Authority has announced a tender and reached an agreement to construct 33 KVA  transmission line covering 81 kilometers from Surkhet district, said Minister Pun. Distribution and customer service centers will also be opened in the district. The contractor has reached the last stage of a survey process targeting the completion deadline, he added.


The necessary procedure has begun to transport 300 KVA diesel generator of the Kaligandaki Hydropower Project to the district as a temporary solution to illuminate the district, he said. Approximately Rs 2.22 billion worth of property of respective structures under the Ministry across the country were destroyed in the recent flooding and landslides, he informed.
