JUMLA, Jan 15: With an outbreak of viral fever across Jajarkot, the neighboring district of Jumla is on alert against a potential spread of the malady. Human resources in Jumla have been placed on alert for deployment if called upon.
Experts suggest that the erstwhile Tampti Village Development Committee on the border between Jajarkot and Jumla is at high risk of contamination. Keeping this in mind, they have readied necessary stocks of medicines and the health workers just in case, according to Angadab Bahadur Shahi, chief of District Public Health Office (DPHO) Jumla.
“Additionally, we are coordinating with the Karnali Institute of Health Science, the regional health directorate, the department of health and the health ministry on ways to prevent an outbreak,” said Shahi.

The DPHO has urged district residents to mind their health in the winter cold and visit nearby health facilities if they fall ill.
“We have instructed the health posts and hospitals to make efficient use of current stocks of medicines. We have also ordered additional stocks of medicines that we are low on,” added Shahi.
He further said that areas at risk of contamination are under constant monitoring. “We call up every health facility at least once a day to get updated on the current local situations. If there is any sign of potential contamination, we can deploy our health team at short notice.”
Furthermore, the DPHO has also instructed the Animal Services Office, Jumla, to stay on the alert.
Chief District Officer Bishnu Paudel confirmed the preparations, adding that every government office in Jumla has been instructed to be ready to jump into action at a moment's notice.
Locals are being urged to adopt cautionary measures also, such as minding their diet and keeping warm.
The district has 30 health facilities. The DPHO said none of these is facing any shortage of necessary medicines at the moment and additional stocks are in the pipeline.
