Speaking to media at Pokhara airport before his return to Kathmandu Sunday morning, Dr Bhattarai, who is also Finance Minister, said, "Judiciary should never remain above the loktantra."
Risking contempt of court for speaking on a matter that is sub judice, the Maoist leader vented his anger over the apex court´s recent stay order against the government´s decision of not extending tenure of eight brigadier generals of the Nepal Army (NA).
A visibly angry Dr Bhattarai also suggested immediate "restructuring" of judiciary. He added that a single person in the judiciary cannot change the decision of the government.
"If judiciary is not restructured in time, it will always create obstacles over the functioning of loktantra," he said. "The delay in restructuring judiciary has created various problems."
He also criticized the major coalition partner, Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist). He charged that the UML politicized the issue of its cadre´s killing in Butwal.
"The UML has expressed its role not as a political party but merely as a forum after the incident in Butwal," he said.
While denying his party´s involvement in the murder of UML cadre Prachanda Thaiba in Butwal last Thursday, Dr Bhattarai said the UML was conspiring against the government. Youth Force, the UML youth wing, has accused Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) of killing Thaiba.
Bhattarai didn´t spare the main opposition, Nepali Congress (NC), either. "Nepali Congress keeps on creating hurdles for the government," he said. "It (NC) doesn´t allow the government to proceed by obstructing parliamentary meetings."
