JANAKPUR, Jan 16: Agitating journalists in Janakpur halted their sit-in protest outside the District Administration Office, Dhanusha Thursday night, following request from the Information Minister and Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) to halt the strike.
The journalists halted the strike that was staged since the murder of journalist Uma Singh last week after Minister for Information and Communication Krishna Bahadur Mahara and FNJ president Dharmendra Jha requested to opt for other forms of protests.

In his visit to Janakpur Thursday, Minister Mahara had promised that the government would anyhow punish the perpetrators.
However, Janakpur-based print and electronic media have continued to boycott government news in protest against the cold blood murder of their colleague, Singh on Sunday.
At the call of the Madhesi Journalists Society, a transportation strike was imposed at the Ramananda Chowk for about one and half hours Friday morning. The journalists have vowed to increase the strike duration by 15 minutes each day until the perpetrators of the murder are brought to book.
