Journo held for blackmailing businessman

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: The Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu on Tuesday arrested a journalist for blackmailing the owner of Baraha Jewelers at New Road in the capital to extort money.



According to the police, Binod Chaulagain, executive director of Sadabahar Weekly, Binod Chaulagain 25 was nabbed following a tip-off. [break]



“He had demanded Rs 500,000 from the owner of Baraha Jewelers, who had recently bought looted gold at a very low price.” Chaulagain has been sent to Hanuman Dhoka for further investigation.



Lalitpur Metropolitan Police had recently nabbed a gang of robbers. During police investigation robbers had confessed that they had sold the gold jewelries to Baraha Jewelry. The owner of the Jewelry Shop is in police custody for the further investigation.



APF nabs three with a pistol



Meanwhile, an APF team on Tuesday arrested three persons for possessing an illegal pistol and bullets from Chhauni. According to the DSP Ajay Chhatkuli of the Armed Police Force, they were arrested in possession of an Italia pistol and bullets.



The three arrested are Santosh Dangal, 20, of Morang, Mahendra Bhattarai, 25, of Paanchthar and Rabin Bista 22 of Jhapa.
