Journalists protest informer-policy

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: Journalists staged a sit-in in front of the main gate of Singha Durbar - the nation´s main administration building - Monday morning demanding not to deploy journalists as informers, to implement the Working Journalists Act at the earliest and reinstate those journalists fired from the different media houses immediately.



The protest was organised by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur branches and coordinated by the FNJ.



The protestors have warned to launch a strong agitation if their demands were not addressed.



Speaking at the protest program, FNJ central treasurer Ramesh Bista, Yub Raj Bidrohi of Kathmandu branch, president of Lalitpur branch Damodar Timilsina and president of Bhaktapur branch Narayan Sundar Kilambu urged the government and owners of the respected media houses to be serious towards their demands.
