KATHMANDU, July 1: Journalists on Friday blew whistles, protesting the inability of the government in arresting the main accused of the attack on journalist Khilanath Dhakal.

In Kathmandu, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) held a gathering at Maitighar Mandala and blew whistles for five minutes ‘to make the government listen to the demands.’[break]

The event also marked the conclusion of the second phase of the agitation by journalists protesting the attack on journalist Dhakal in Biratnagar.

The attack was masterminded by the Youth Force Morang Chairman Parsuram Basnet, who has not yet been arrested.

“The case has been filed in the court now and we will now focus on the legal battle,” FNJ President Shiva Gaunle said addressing the gathering.

Earlier in the day, a central committee meeting of the FNJ had made a decision to concentrate their efforts on seeking legal action against the assailants of journalist Dhakal, with cases against them already registered in court.

The office of the District Attorney, Morang on Thursday had filed a charge-sheet against Basnet and two of his accomplices at the district court in connection with the murderous attack on Dhakal.

Parshuram has been accused of masterminding the attack, while the other two -- Youth Force Biratnagar Chief Rohit Koirala and member Manoj Rai -- of executing the murderous plan.

Dhakal was attacked on June 5 for reporting the attack on jailbird Abhishek Giri inside the district court premises by Parshuram´s gang on June 1.

Meanwhile, FNJ Baglung district also staged a similar program in front of the District Administration Office.
