Bohora has proposed that the party should do away with the existing party structure, which has the General Secretary as the all-powerful leader. UML sources said that Bohora´s proposal includes adoption of a joint leadership on the principle of "control and balance" by creating posts of chairman, vice-chairman, general-secretary, secretary and members.
Bohora´s proposal envisages that the chairman will lead the political wing of the party, while the general-secretary heads the party organization.
Central Committee members will discuss the proposal during the committee meeting on Thursday, and the matter will be taken to the party´s national convention due to be held in February.
Meanwhile, a six-member taskforce formed on Tuesday to review the party´s "uncomfortable" journey with the CPN (Maoist) in the government and implementation of past agreements tabled its report to the Central Committee meeting, which started on Monday, Wednesday.
Talking to myrepublica.com, head of the UML taskforce Ishwar Pokharel said the meeting is likely to finalize its recommendations on Thursday, before it is handed over to the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the format of the party´s memorandum.
Despite the fact that UML´s political equation with Maoists is at risk, UML leader Pokharel said – quoting UML Central Committee leaders who gave their remarks on Wednesday – that the party shouldn´t withdraw from the government at the moment.
Pokharel said the party will make public the decisions of the Central Committee at a press conference on Friday.
