JICA appoints Sakuna as new Nepal chief

KATHMANDU , March 23: Jun Sakuma has been assigned as the new Chief Representative at Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Nepal Office.

Sakuma has taken over the post from Tsutomu Shimizu who completed his tenure in March.Before joining Nepal Office, Sakuma was working as executive advisor to the Director General and Deputy Director General for Planning and ASEAN Partnership, Southeast Asia and Pacific Department in JICA, according to a statement issued by JICA. His career in JICA started in 1989 with his assignment in Planning Division, Expert Assignment Department. He was Deputy Director General and Group Director of Basic Education Group, Human Development Department from 2010-2013.He has rich experience in JICA's several departments, including planning, project formulation, social development and personnel department.

Sakuma graduated from Waseda University of Japan in Faculty of Law in 1989. He obtained his Master of Arts in education from School of Education, Stanford University, US in 1996.

"In order to realize JICA's vision -- Inclusive and Dynamic Development -- in Nepal, JICA Nepal will continue to provide maximum support to the Nepali people and the government for peace and prosperity. The Nepal Office will expedite its assistance towards reconstruction and rehabilitation with Build Back Better concept and manner to support earthquake victims," Sakuma said.
