“There have been a lot of changes in the type and design of jewelries in recent years. Jewelries are now made with a bit of tradition and modernity infused on them,” says Manish L Pradhan, director of Asri Jewelers at New Road. “Plain and traditional gold jewelries are being replaced with diamond jewelries that have other precious stones such as emerald, ruby and sapphire studded on them.”
Pradhan further informed that people lately are selecting between contrast jewelries and stone-studded jewelries. “Stones like ruby and emerald add an extra glamour to the red wedding attire. Because of this fact, people prefer colorful jewels instead of yellow metal,” he added. He also added that people have started going for at least a diamond ring for weddings these days.
Tej Ratna Shakya, president of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers´ Association, said the said the sale of ornaments with precious stones studded on them was on the rise. “The number of customers preferring stone-studded jewelries was high in this wedding season. We saw a sharp rise in diamond shoppers this season, thanks to changing fashion and the security factor,” he added.
Diamond, which was the forte of upper class people until a few years ago, is now making a move into the middle-class segment in the society. But traders like Shakya are upbeat that nothing can replace the value of golden jewelries if they are introduced with a blend of tradition and modernity.
To make people move along with the changing trends, jewelers in the town have come up with special jewelry collection, particularly for the wedding season. One such store is Asri Jewelers, which is offering special wedding collection by blending tradition with modernity. Republica brings you some of trendier and modern studded jewelries introduced for this wedding season.
