KATHMANDU, March 13: Judicial Council (JC) has called an emergency meeting following the controversy that cropped up after newly elected Bidya Devi Bhandari was sworn in as President by ‘ousted’ Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli.
According to a highly placed source at the Supreme Court, CJ Parajuli has called an emergency meeting of the JC after he was handed a letter of termination that states Parajuli has crossed the 65 age limit on August 5, 2017.
The meeting is expected to come up with a decision on the matter.
The JC is comprised of Chief Justice as chairman in which a Nepal Bar Association representative, senior Justice of the Supreme Court and Law Minister are members.
CJ’s ‘removal’ from the post has triggered discourse across the media and social networking sites over the legitimacy of the oath taken by newly elected by President Bhandari.
