Japan approves Rs 6 m fund for Nepal

KATHMANDU, June 3: The government of Japan upon the request of the government of Nepal has approved the utilization of the Counterpart Fund of Rs six million for the implementation of the sericulture Development Program.



According to press statement issued by Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu, the objective of the program is to develop commercial sericulture in order to diversify and commercialize agriculture by increasing the production and productivity of silk cocoon. [break]



The program also aims at developing and strengthening cooperatives and private entrepreneurs to establish income generating Seri enterprises/cottage industries in rural areas.



“The program is expected to help in the production of silk worm eggs, farm management and procurement and marketing of cocoons produced by the farmers. About one thousand households of the farmers will be benefited under the program,” said the statement.



The Counterpart Fund was established through the financial assistance extended by the Japan to increase agriculture production under KR2 (the Grant assistance for underprivileged farmers).
